The Navagraha Shrine at the Gayathri Peedam was installed by Swami Murugesu on the 5th of April 1998. It is used during the Navagraha and Mahanavagraha Poojas. Their purpose is to counteract possible negative astrological effects caused by any of the nine planets. A Navagraha Pooja is conducted every Saturday morning. Devotees are required to bring with them milk, maas, 9 bananas, 10 flower buds per person, 9 betel leaf, a new towel, bucket with lid and offering tray with milk and fruit. During the Pooja devotees walk around the temple 108 times, perform Navagraha abishegam and take part in a hawan. A Mahanavagraha Pooja is conducted every three months.
